Yuksom is 33 kms from Pelling, Yuksom, literally meaning the meeting place of three lamas is of great historical importance to the Sikkimese. It was here that the first Chogyal was crowned in 1642. The throne made of stones is even today considered sacred as is the footprint of Lhatsun Chenpo, which can be seen close to the throne. 2 km uphill from Yuksum is Dubdi monastery, the oldest in Sikkim. It is a charming and historically significant town that serves as the gateway to the Kangchendzonga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This tranquil hamlet is renowned for its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and trekking opportunities, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike.

Reaching Yuksom can be an adventure in itself. The nearest major airport is Bagdogra in West Bengal, from where you can hire a taxi or take a shared jeep to reach Yuksom. The drive is a scenic journey through lush green forests, meandering rivers, and stunning mountain vistas. Alternatively, you can take a train to New Jalpaiguri Railway Station and continue your journey by road. The road journey to Yuksom involves winding mountain roads, so it's essential to be prepared for a somewhat lengthy and sometimes bumpy ride.

The best time to visit Yuksom is during the spring and summer months, from March to June, when the weather is pleasant and the landscape is adorned with colorful blooming flowers. This period offers ideal conditions for trekking and outdoor activities. However, if you want to experience the magic of snowfall and witness a winter wonderland, visiting Yuksom during the winter months, from October to February, is also an option. Just be prepared for cold temperatures and the possibility of road closures due to snow.

Yuksom is not only a destination in itself but also a gateway to some of Sikkim's most breathtaking natural wonders.
