Chuba Homestay is built keeping in ideas of modern construction method keeping in touch with Sikkimese values. The interiors of the homestay are made using locally sourced timber (Alnus nepalensis), tree species endemic to the subtropical highlands of Eastern Himalayan region.

Rong Lyang farm house is situated at Chakung, West Sikkim, India.
Rong Lyang means Lepchas dwelling place in lepcha language. Lepchas are the indigenous people of Sikkim. They have their own distinct culture, traditions, language and script. Though they have been dwelling here from the distant past they seem to be vanishing. So, Through this venture we appeal all the global humanity to come forward, to learn and study our culture and traditions for preservation. It had welcoming moderate climate for Pleasant stay throughout the year.

Chakung is a virgin land for guest to explore, nestled in hills strewn with lush green and breathtaking landscape with wide range of forest covers. Chalamthang Homestay

Chalamthang literally means “Orange Farm” in Lepcha language. Located just 42 kms from Gangtok and 98 kms from Siliguri, this small village of ours is a true traveller’s paradise.

Still untouched by tourist rush, here you can pick up vegetables from the garden and give it to our kitchen for fresh salads or you can visit Kaleej Khola – the local rivulet gurgling through the rocky slopes to get a dip or do some fishing. You can go trekking to nearby caves and hilltops or enjoy cultural programs and barbeques in the evening.

Our home stay in Chalamthang is located on the edge of a hilltop with a panoramic view of the Himalayan foothill, the meandering Teesta River and the snowy peaks of Nathula and beyond. We have 4 ethnic rooms and have also made a Machaan (watch tower) for our guests from where they can enjoy these mesmerizing views.

Activities at Chalamthang

While staying at Chalamthang, you can enjoy a whole lot of activities starting from angling, vegetable picking to trekking and forest picnics. Here are few things you try at Chalamthang:

  • Forest picnics
    We have selected some secluded spots within the surrounding forests of Chalamthang, where we pitch the tents for the forest picnics. Our local cooks and helpers would reach the spot in the early hours and keep everything ready for you. Your group can enjoy the village walk and reach the spot to find everything arranged. You can do some river fishing and then ask your cook to fry up the catch.
  • Trekking
    Chalamthang is idle for forest trekking. The two most popular treks – Maenam la and Tendong Hill trek – are arranged from Chalamthang. Guides, porters, tents, permits and everything is arranged by us. Tendong Hill is an extinct volcano and the trail passes through deep forests teeming with local birds and animals. There is a watch tower at the top from where you can catch a panoramic view of Mt. Kanchenjungha and parts of West and South Sikkim. Meanam Hill trek is equally famous to birdwatchers. The watch tower at Maenam Hill top also enjoys the magnificent views of Mt. Kanchenjungha. Both these treks can be done in a day but it is advisable to stay overnight at the respective hilltops for the heavenly early-morning view of the mountains. we can arrange for tents or you can stay in the trekker’s huts located on the hill top.
  • Nature Walk
    Chalamthang is surrounded by forests on one side and farmlands on the other. You can take long village walks through the surrounding villages and see the traditional village life unfolding before you. Our local guide can also take you through the forests to some caves or the riverside.
  • Fishing
    Kaleej Khola is just two kilometers from Chalamthang through the forests and you can practice your angling skills here. We have the basic fishing equipment for the guests to enjoy local fishing but professionals should carry their gear. Local cold water fish like Asala, Buduna, Chirkey, Bhitti are found in plenty but rare species like Goonch have also been spotted in Kalej Khola in the past.
  • Birdwatching
    Located at an altitude of 3500 feet at the foothills of the Maenam Hills, Chalamthang falls on the seasonal migratory route of the Himalayan birds. The usual birds to be spotted are Woodpeckers, Warblers, Magpies, Finches, Sunbirds, Flycatchers, Robins, Eagles, Patridges and many more.

Yangsum Village Homestay

Yangsum Village Homestay is a quaint and modest homestay located in a charming village Yangsum in West Sikkim which abounds in natural flora and fauna. The homestay offers mesmerizing views of the steep mountain side and the valleys below.

Ms Ukeela Bhutia, who is a first time lady entrepreneur is the owner of this property and single handedly runs the entire show. The property is fairly new as it started out in 2019 and has 5 guest rooms. Ukeela is a proactive host and guests on their stay here can enjoy the fresh organic produce from her own kitchen garden.

Infact all the food and vegetables served is home grown and sourced directly from farm to plate. One can sample village life and local food while staying here.
Guests can get also enjoy birding activities and watching rare species of Himalayan butterflies from the homestay itself.

Tariff starts at Rs 1200 per pax (variable as per season) in which all meals are included.

An extravaganza of traveling and the local tradition with a return of splendid experience is what has been observed by many visitors here at Gurung Homestay. Our family comprises of Radha my wife , Prabal and Neysang are our kids. The homestay provides a very cosy environment in getting along and learning the daily ways of our life. It has decade ago we have been operating the homestay here in Darap Village at West Sikkim and sharing the village joy of life with people around the world. Surrounding is being kept very well with lots of flowering plants and gardening, a fish pond and the Cottages of Sikkimese style. Our kids are very friendly with the guest children as they loves to play along them around the house.
